Here are the various solutions you can try to fix your laptop speakers not working, from the easiest to the most advanced.

1. Restarting your computer is by far the easiest way to fix audio problems.

Sometimes there is a conflict in the software and a reboot removes any conflict or data corruption and like magic, everything works as expected.

2. Check your volume settings.

Click the speaker icon in the lower right corner of the laptop to make sure the speakers are not muted and the volume is turned up.

3. If you are using headphones or external speakers, the audio signal will be sent to that device (maybe off, dead battery, etc.).

Disconnect them to see if the audio comes out of the laptop's speakers again.

4. Run the Sound troubleshooter, it will check and fix any problems it finds. Right-click the speaker symbol in the system tray and click Troubleshooting Sound. Follow the prompts to fix audio issues.

5. Update your drivers.

Just like restarting your computer, there is a good chance that doing this solution will fix your audio problem. If the hardware is not compatible with the new version of Windows, it will not work. There are one of two ways to do this.

The first method involves you opening the Device Manager and finding the Audio Input and Output entry. Updating drivers is done automatically by your computer.

The second method is to download the driver directly from Dell (or the manufacturer). Doing this ensures you download the latest drivers, and going to Device Manager may give you an older version.

After downloading the drivers, go back to Device Manager and install them.

6. Reinstall the old driver.

Instead, audio issues can be the cause of a malfunctioning driver, so it's best to use an old, working version of the audio driver.

7. Reset your computer.

Doing so will allow you to reinstall the Windows operating system from scratch and make everything look the same as when you first bought the laptop. Note that this process may take a while

NOTE: Resetting your PC to its factory settings will erase everything and you will lose all files and applications. It is recommended that you back up your data to avoid losing all data.

8. If everything you have tried still results in the speaker not working, please contact Dell Technical Support.
